Work in Progress

2007 Santa Fe Wine Festival

These are prototypes for the 2007 Santa Fe Wine Festival at El Rancho de las Golondrinas web site. The page layouts are done using CSS, and the overall design is based on "accessibility" and "useability" best practices.

MyGallerySantaFe.com

This is a social networking web site devoted to the art gallery scene in Santa Fe. It is based on a template, but I have customized it to a large extent.

Static Websites

Mary Bonkemeyer

Mary Bonkemeyer is an artist living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. When I designed the website for her, I wanted to create a simple design that would allow her artwork to stand out. To showcase her artwork, I chose to display eight clickable thumbnails per page, with an adjacent viewing area for the larger versions of each image. To provide a nice texture for the background, I "tiled" tiny 5 x 5 and 3 x 3 pixel gifs across the top, middle and bottom regions. This provides a nice textured background with no overhead. The images are tiny (54 bytes and 45 bytes), they download fast. The browser downloads it only once, caches it, and then replicates it inside the containing HTML element.

GeoMosaics

GeoMosaics is a website I made for a local geologist, Kirt Kempter. While on assignment in the field, he has taken digital photographs of remarkable geologic formations. Using Photoshop, he has quilted together large, high resolution photomosaic images. The images are printed out and mounted on firm gatorboard, and can be mounted on a wall. The photomosaic posters and high resolution images can be purchased. Also included on this website are geologic descriptions of what you see in the pictures, which adds a nice educational component.

Lucille Garfield

Lucille Garfield is an artist living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This website uses Javascript to display scrolling image galleries, and a scrolling text area for the biography section. The background was achieved by tiling two rectangular images horizontally, and two images horizontally and vertically. The ragged edge effect was done in Photoshop by applying filter effects on a light brown rectangle.

Jerry Gonzales Bail Bonding

This is another web site designed using "accessibility" and "useability" best practices. Simple and functional.

Clear Night Designs ( the original )

This was one of my early websites, but I list it here because... it's sentimental. This was an experimental website, in which I crontrolled the opacity of HTML elements using CSS alone. The left column and top navigation menu appear transparent if your browser supports it. Using information gathered by taking snapshots of the website with www.browsercam.com, I determined which browsers supported the CSS properties for opacity (for more information see the "updates" section of the website). I then used a "browser sniffer" to determine if the browser supports it, and then turned it on or off depending on the browser.
